Direct initiative evangelism ideas are outreaches driven by approaching individuals, usually with surveys, with the plan of sharing the gospel with them in such a way to expect a response. Below are several direct evangelism ideas.
B.Y.O.P. (Bring Your Own Player)
This strategy takes advantage of the popularity of music, and especially hip-hop among our target audience. Get in the mindset of a music promoter who is seeking to blow up an artist. The only difference is you really want to use the music to “blow up” the Lord Jesus Christ. Students are approached and asked ‘Would you like to hear this NEW hip-hop track? We want to get the opinions of students.”
We recommend using a song that deals with contemporary concerns in our community from Christian hip-hop artists (because of pre-conceptions people have toward “Christian” hip-hop just say “hip hop”). Our recommendations are “Videos” or “Money” by Flame. “Free” or “What Do You See?” by The Ambassador of Cross Movement is also effective for this strategy. If everyone participating has the song on CD or MP3, we recommend using only one song so that the surveys and lyrics will be consistent. But please do not “burn” songs onto CDs (that neglects compensating the artist for the music he/she created, see 1 Timothy 5:18).
- Music device (Portable MP3 player, CD player, etc.) for each outreach pair.
- Music and lyrics of the song.
- Visit Cross Movement for lyrics.
- The Impact Hip-Hop Survey.
- The Passage or The Four Spiritual Laws, and the Satisfied Booklet

Do You Want A Kiss?
Because our outreach occurs during the week of Valentine’s Day, relationships are on the minds of many (even more than usual). This makes it a perfect opportunity to offer the true love tht only comes through a relationship with God through Christ. It’s simple, just offer candy (Hershey Kisses are nice) and ask if the person will complete a survey you’re doing on relationships. Asking if they want a “kiss” can be a humorous way to break the ice. Be very attentive to what people share about their views on relationships. It will give you insight about how to approach them about the gospel.
- Candy bags (Hershey Kisses recommended).
- Relationship Survey.
- The Passage, and Satisfied booklets.
